3 steps to keeping your team engaged from Updater’s People Experience Manager

Engaging with employees is essential to creating an enjoyable and productive work experience. Ashley Lundford, the People Experience Manager at Updater, has developed a guide to using the “Lagniappe” experience to create a meaningful and lasting impact on the team. Through her tips and tricks, you can create a positive environment where employees feel valued, connected, and supported. Let’s dive in and explore the “Lagniappe” experience!

First, what is Lagniappe?

lagniappe

/ˈlanˌyap,ˌlanˈyap/

Noun. something given as a bonus or extra gift.

Step 1: Create a positive internal communication platform

If you use an internal communication platform like Slack or Teams - drop a random note in the all company channel - and ask if anyone needs a dance break or if you aren't a dancer -- make it about "grabbing a coffee with a friend" Slack Ex: @ here anyone need a dance break? [Insert dance emoji & Zoom link] You never know you actually might need it

Step 2: Check in with your team

Make time to reach out to at least 3-5 employees a week and ask them "how are you"? Whether it’s an email, a quick call, or a text message, taking a few minutes out of your day to check in with your team goes a long way and shows that you are invested in their well-being.

Step 3: Quarterly team events

Set up time for the entire team to get together once a quarter. If your employees are local, try hosting a BBQ in a park and encouraging your employees to bring the whole family or try an escape room for some teamwork.

Because we are fully remote here at Updater and MoveHQ, we work with companies like BoomPop, Marco Experiences, and Go Luna Park to provide engaging virtual experiences that help keep remote teams connected and engaged.
